People often assume newer, younger brands are more ethical.
Our challenge for this global campaign was to get the next generation of conscious tea-drinkers to see Dilmah in a new light — not as their parents’ tea, but as the “for good” company they’ve always been.
By using a mixed-media animation for the campaign film, we were able bring the brand into the 21st century, while staying true to its story and heritage.
Traditional colours and texture were brought to life in a vibrant and whimsical way. Animation allowed us to go from intimate teacup settings one second to elephants standing on earth the next.
And do this all seamlessly.
Blurring the lines between what is hand-illustrated and what is 3d animated gave the final film a magical, storybook quality.
Of course, we couldn’t make a Dilmah spot without a cameo from the great Merrill J Fernando, with his immortal line “Do Try It”. The voiceover was delivered by his grandson, Amrit.
The rest of the campaign followed the style of the film with hand-drawn animated type and social media friendly GIF style animation.

A the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic New Zealand was full of people who had to cancel their overseas travel plans. This campaign targeted this domestic tourism market, by comparing many of the city’s attractions to international destinations.
Although it was done with a self-deprecating smile, the visuals show the incredible beauty of the area, with stunning photography. It also highlights the wide variety of things to do, which will be surprising to potential visitors who haven’t been before.
The success of this campaign was attributed with increasing visitor spending to levels higher than before the Covid-19 pandemic.
We developed this brand from the ground up, identifying the personality of Dunedinites and communicating the city's unique characteristics through local storytelling.

We managed the merger of R&R Sport and Torpedo7 to create New Zealand's largest outdoor sports retailer. The initial project involved developing a brand strategy and brand positioning followed by the development of a new brand and a merger campaign. We also created a TV commercial to leverage Torpedo7's sponsorship of Emirates Team New Zealand in the America's Cup.
We designed this reusable packaging for Dunedin company Bay Rd, jars can be returned for a discount on your next, or refilled. Good for the planet and good for you, the peanut butter is pretty damn tasty too.
This work won a Silver at the Best Design Awards.

Emerson’s have been crafting beer since long before craft beer was a thing. The recent explosion in the craft beer industry meant they needed to rethink their brand and their position in the market after 23 years of brewing.
We went back to the start with the brand and created a new tone of voice that was a mix of the self-depreciating Dunedinite and Richard Emerson’s unique sense of humour. We then redesigned all of the packaging, making sure we honoured and referenced the past, and told the many great stories that had never been told, like the fact that the profoundly deaf Richard had named Bird Dog IPA after his favourite Verlaine's song.
Emerson's won the Trophy for the best packaging at the NZ Brewers Guild Awards.
Research found that travellers are often in a state of anxiety. We developed a clear and concise brand style that used humour to help customers relax and make their trip easier.
We created an immersive Dunedin experience for travellers as they step off the plane by filling an airbridge with panoramic images and sounds from Tunnel Beach.

When one of the world’s best storytellers asked us to tell their story, we wanted to make sure we did them proud.
Their humble kiwi approach is reflected in this ever evolving branding, which is all about honouring the hero of their stories, the natural world.
We were involved from the conception to the completion of this boutique hotel development, located in a heritage building in downtown Dunedin. We developed the brand concept, hotel name and tone of voice, then worked closely with the interior architect throughout the process, applying the brand to everything from the signage, internal way-finding, door hangers and website.

This Hamilton based aircraft manufacturer came to us for a full company rebrand and the renaming and repositioning of their utility aircraft. This involved master brand logo, aircraft logos, plane livery, promotional material, website and creative direction of a photoshoot in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Soon after completing the rebranding they were sold out of planes for the next two years of production.
We helped define and create a new approach to pharmacy where the best of nature and science meet. Natural remedies with evidence to back them up sit alongside clinically tested medicines from the pharmaceutical industry.
